With have the same opinion and encouragement from local journalists, a scholar chapter of a national Black journalist group of workers has been revived at Saint Augustine’s. The Saint Augustine’s Faculty Association of Black Reporters (SAU-ABJ) has officially been established as a scholar chapter of the National Association of Black Reporters (NABJ). This nonprofit group of workers is helping, trains, and advocates for journalists of color.
The newly appointed officers of SAU-ABJ are:
- President, senior Shappelle Marshall
- Vice chairman-broadcast, junior Naiylah Archer
- Vice chairman-digital, junior Miles Beasley
- Secretary/treasurer, sophomore Sasha Rowland
All are Media & Communications majors. The college adviser is Dan Holly, Media & Communications program coordinator.
Final month, the new chapter got the most important boost when the Raleigh-Durham chapter of NABJ (NABJ-RDU) visited SAU. That group of workers – which consists of newshounds, editors, and other professionals running for TV, radio, newspapers, and other media stores, along with other communications professionals from public family members corporations and academia – has offered “College Tour,” an outreach advertising marketing campaign to local journalism students. In a meeting on October 8 at the Seby Jones building, NABJ-RDU President Marie Torres outlined that the group targets to determine closer ties with house schools, in particular HBCUs, and to influence students all in favour of journalism. Torres and other NABJ-RDU participants pledged have the same opinion, guidance, and enhance.

After the meeting, participants of NABJ-RDU toured the WAUG wing, led by the use of Williams, along side SAU communications students. They showed the visiting journalists the radio station, the new keep watch over room for the TV station, and the TV studio provide procedure a $1 million renovation.
